As "Extraordinary Ministers of the
Eucharist" (more commonly known as Eucharistic Minister), we stand in
God's presence and bring that presence to our ministry. This is true
not because of any special virtue or holiness on the part of the
Eucharistic Minister, rather it is because of the mission, the witness
and the gift of Holy Communion that the Eucharistic Minister brings to
the faith community. Our commitment, faithfulness and willingness to
be there when we are needed, and our desire to share ourselves and our
time with others nourishes and supports the faith of those whom we
serve.
As a Eucharistic Minister, we serve
the faith community in a way that is a great privilege and a humble
service because we are called to be an instrument of God's love to
those who receive Communion from us.
In addition to distributing
Communion during weekend and Holy Day Masses at St. Catherine of Siena
Parish, our Eucharistic Ministers bring Holy Communion to the
residents of the Maefair Health Care Center on the first Sunday of
each month. The student Eucharistic Ministers are scheduled to serve
Communion during the Youth Group Mass which usually is the 10:30 Mass
on the third Sunday of each month.
An orientation session is conducted
in the Fall for new Eucharistic Ministers and the Commissioning Rite
takes place during a Mass several weeks following the training.
Everyone receives a schedule quarterly of assigned times with
frequency of service approximately every second or third week.
